Jack Perry might be showcasing more edge and attitude than ever before after his recent heel turn, but it was a line during his babyface feud against Christian Cage that ended up landing him in trouble behind the scenes.

During his storyline against the wrestling veteran, Perry told Cage that he was “the biggest pussy I have ever met in my entire life.” It was a line that suited the situation given how heated things had gotten between the two, but it was also one that the company didn’t appreciate as revealed on the latest “Hey! (EW).”

“Literally that line exposed all the pussies back here, because I got in so much trouble about that word,” Perry admitted while still throwing shade. “They’re emailing me saying, ‘Please don’t ever say that again.'”

But Perry still attempted to capitalize on the moment even further, but that only landed him in further trouble. “I made a shirt with that word on it, ‘Never wear this again or else we’re going to do this and this,'” he claims he was told.

AEW may not work with the same restrictions as WWE, but wrestlers still must abide by certain rules established by their bosses, especially when on broadcast television. It wasn’t the first time a wrestler has found themselves in some heat for pushing the boundaries, and it certainly won’t be the last.

A likely in-character Ricky Starks has called for a “changing of the guards” in professional wrestling.

The All Elite Wrestling star tweeted the following on Sunday evening, hoping for a new star’s emergence:

Starks is, of course, talking about himself. The picture comes from last week’s episode of AEW Rampage, on which he was a participant in the first ever ‘Royal Rampage’ battle royal for a shot at interim World Champion Jon Moxley’s belt. The Team Taz man fared well alongside partner Powerhouse Hobbs, eliminating John Silver and rival Keith Lee before he was thrown out by ‘Hangman’ Adam Page.

The House of Black’s Brody King ended up taking the Royal Rumble, eliminating Darby Allin last. He challenges Moxley on this Wednesday’s Dynamite.

Starks and Hobbs are currently positioned at number two in AEW’s tag team rankings. The duo last fought for the World Tag Team Championships at Double Or Nothing 2022 (29 May), where Jurassic Express were victorious in a bout also featuring Team Taz rivals Lee and Swerve Strickland. Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus have since split up in the wake of dropping the gold to The Young Bucks.

In a recent appearance on Josh Martinez’s Superstar Crossover show, AEW star Ricky Starks expressed his desire to work with WWE’s Paul Heyman.

“Well, first off, I think the fact that Paul is going to acknowledge me is also a good start here,” Starks said. “But you know what it is, you know what I actually really like about Paul, is the fact that this dude worked his way up from one of the most famous clubs in New York as a photographer to where he is now.

“I admittedly, and selfishly, would have loved to have the chance to work with him. Because I know the benefits of working with somebody like Paul, even from the stories of my friends that used to work with him. Just knowing that he sees only the positives and how to accentuate that.”

Starks then compared himself to a “piece of clay” that can be molded into a big star by Heyman.

“Bro, I am like a piece of clay right now,” Starks said. “Could you imagine if Paul Heyman got his hands on me? I would be freakin’ unstoppable. I’m already on my way to being on stage. What I’m saying is I would have been there a lot quicker. So the personal situation with Paul Heyman is the fact that — what a missed opportunity between me and him, don’t you think?”

Ricky Starks will be one of the six participants in the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match this Sunday at the AEW Revolution pay-per-view. As noted, the winner of the ladder match will challenge Sammy Guevara for the AEW TNT Title on the St. Patrick’s Day Slam edition of AEW Dynamite on March 16.

Hook has quickly become one of the hottest young stars in AEW. His fellow Team Taz members Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs recently spoke with ComicBook.com and say what fans see on-screen is basically the same Hook they see when cameras aren’t rolling.

Starks recalled it was difficult early on to convince some in AEW to embrace Hook’s unique charisma.

“I remember when he first started with us back in Jacksonville,” Starks said. “A lot of people didn’t get him. A lot of people did not understand him or couldn’t figure out what [he] was about. And I’ll never forget being like, ‘Hey if you wanna wear a hood on TV, you should do it. Just try it, just do it.’ And his dad [Taz] was like, ‘No, he’s gotta show his face.’ [I said] ‘No, just let him do it. Let’s see what happens.’ So it’s cool to see it take off the way it has.

“And obviously, we are very proud to see how far he’s come,” Starks continued. “Especially from when he first started to where it is now. The Team Taz group has been through a lot, quite a bit. And where we’re at right now is not where we want to be, but it’s way better than where we were. So I’m glad and I’m proud to see where he’s at, and he’s awesome.”

The members of Team Taz do not receive as much attention as other young stars in AEW. MJF, Sammy Guevara, Darby Allin, and Jungle Boy have been labeled the “Four Pillars of AEW”. Powerhouse Hobbs thinks it’s a matter of time before he, Starks, and Hook are included in that conversation.

“We rewrite things,” Hobbs said. “So I personally feel, when (Starks) and I came into AEW, it was during the pandemic era. We got signed about a month apart from each other. I feel that there are doubters out there and I feel every time he steps in the ring and I step in the ring, we change things up, we open everyone’s eyes. Things will change.”

“To me, the whole pillar talk is hilarious in a sense, because it’s so self-indulgent,” Starks added. “It’s nothing that was bestowed upon them. That was just something that came from them. So I usually don’t think about it in that regard. Like, ‘I’m not included in this.’ Who cares? Because to me, I’m gonna be much bigger than whatever the pillar is.

“I’m gonna be much bigger than wrestling, in a sense. And so, I find it so funny. The conversation is so hilarious because nine times out of 10, ‘Well, don’t forget this, and this, and this.’ And yeah, don’t forget, y’all, don’t forget. So I don’t mind it too much. I don’t really try to keep it as a chip on my shoulder, but it is hilarious.”
