Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki passed Hall of Famer Elvin Hayes on Friday to move into eighth in all-time scoring.
Nowitzki sat only 15 points behind Hayes’ total of 27,313 points scored entering the contest against the Los Angeles Lakers. Nowitzki nailed a 17-foot jumper in the third quarter to move ahead of Hayes.
Nowitzki’s next target is Moses Malone, who logged 27,409 points over his 21-year career. The German sharpshooter is averaging 18.6 points this season, which puts him on pace to pass Malone within the next two weeks.
