Adrian Peterson has lofty goals.

Despite appearing in only one game last season, the Minnesota Vikings running back isn’t worried about rust. In fact, Peterson told the team’s website he’s aiming to rush for 2,500 yards this season.

“I always keep the mark at twenty-five (2,500), so if I get close to that, that’s not bad,” Peterson said.

That total would shatter the single-season rushing record of 2,105 yards held by Eric Dickerson. While Peterson is extremely unlikely to reach that goal, a still challenging, yet attainable mark is Dickerson’s record.

Peterson flirted with it before in 2012, finishing 9 yards shy. This year, though, Peterson has fresh legs and perhaps something to prove as he tries to reclaim his spot as the league’s best back.
