AEW star Shawn Spears announced on Thursday that he and his wife former WWE and Impact Wrestling star Cassie Lee welcomed their first child on January 17.

Spears tweeted a photo of their newborn with the caption, “Austin Jay 💙 1/17/23.”

Lee announced back in August that she was pregnant and in November, Spears revealed the baby’s name while on “The Sessions” podcast with Renée Paquette.

Spears has not wrestled on All Elite Wrestling programming since partnering with FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) on the October 14 episode of “AEW Rampage.” Spears has been with the company since 2019 when he appeared during AEW’s first pay-per-view, Double Or Nothing. Before AEW, Spears wrestled in WWE as Tye Dillinger in his second stint with the company, which lasted from 2013 to 2019.

Lee was with WWE from April 2015 until she was released along with her tag team partner Jessica McKay in April 2021. They were known as The IIconics and their ring names were Peyton Royce and Billie Kay. The IIconics were a tag team until WWE broke them up in the 2020 WWE Draft.

After WWE, Lee and McKay went to Impact Wrestling where they rebranded themselves as The Ilnspiration. They were with the company until announcing their retirement last April. While in WWE, Lee and McKay held the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship and in Impact, they held the Knockouts World Tag Team Titles.

It’s been a trying year for Kevin Nash. From his very best friend and fellow wrestling legend Scott Hall passing away back in March to his 26-year-old son Tristen tragically and suddenly passing away not even two weeks ago, life is anything but normal for the 63-year-old right now. And while everyone does grieve differently, Nash took to the latest episode of his podcast, “Kliq This,” and used that as the avenue to open up on how he’s been feeling ever since.

“I’m that clown,” Nash said. “I’m smiling on the outside, I’m bawling on the outside. I’ve sat here all night and ‘T’ strategically has his chair where it’s like half. I always see half his chair. But when I look in the mirror behind him, I can always see all of him. You know how you want something so bad? He was in my dream the other night, and I woke up and just for a moment was like ‘Oh god, thank you.'”

Tristen was Kevin and his wife Tamara’s only child, who recently started working on his father’s podcast, while being a musician and poet as well. Yet regardless of when he was there or not, Nash always went out of his way to promote his son’s work — letting everyone know just how much he loved him, and how much he still does love him. So much so that he and his wife continue to call him out at home.

“Every time we walked by his room, every time he had his door open, we’d just say ‘Hey T,'” Nash continued. “So now, his door is open all the time. So we still say it. Every time.”

The wrestling world was rocked recently when it was revealed that Kevin Nash’s son, Tristen, had passed away at 26 years old. Sadly, Ric Flair is another WWE Hall of Famer who has experience with losing a child, and during the latest “To Be The Man” podcast, the Nature Boy revealed that he has spoken with Nash and told him, “You’re never going to get over it, you just have to figure out how to deal with it.”

“Dealing with it the way I did, by just completely shutting down and drinking for five straight years didn’t work out, it didn’t do anything,” Flair said. “My advice to him was just hang on to your wife as tight as you can and don’t throw blame at each other, there’s no way to deal with it.”

Flair has always been open throughout his career when speaking about the loss of his son, and he hoped that what he had to say to Nash was “something to encourage him,” even though he was surprised the NWO star had reached out. Nash himself opened up in an emotional episode of his podcast, where he detailed Tristen’s passing while expressing his love for him.

“It happened on the eve of Scott Hall’s birthday. It’s a double whammy for him because I don’t think he’s recovered from the loss of Scott yet,” Flair said. “So it just shows what a great friend he was to Scott, you know, Scott could be problematic, and Kevin never left his side, never heard Kevin say anything negative about Scott … After all those years it’s hard to find friends like that, so I’ve got nothing but respect for him.”

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver John Ross III has left training camp after both his young son and the boy’s mother tested positive for COVID-19, sources told Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

Ross missed practice Tuesday and there’s no timetable for his return, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. He’s expected to be placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

The Bengals drafted Ross ninth overall in 2017. He’s amassed 49 receptions for 716 yards and 10 touchdowns through 24 career games.

Cincinnati declined the fifth-year option on Ross’ rookie contract this offseason.

Erik Karlsson and the Ottawa Senators have been playing with heavy hearts following the loss of the captain’s unborn son on March 19.

Karlsson opened up about the devastating tragedy, saying things haven’t been easy, but he appreciates all the support he’s received.

“I’m doing okay,” Karlsson told the Ottawa Sun’s Bruce Garrioch following Thursday’s overtime win over the Florida Panthers. “It’s been an extremely tough time and a situation I never expected to be in.

“I just want to thank my teammates, this organization, this community, people around the league and people we don’t even know for giving us their support and our time to be ourselves and grieve. Looking back it meant a lot to us for all the people that reached out – people that we know and people that we don’t know. It helped us get through this a little bit.”

Karlsson doesn’t anticipate things getting any easier, but he and his wife Melinda Currey have remained strong.

“It’s going to take us a very long time to get back to normal, but we’re going to do everything we can to stay as positive as possible,” he said. “I think my wife has handled the situation better than I could have ever imagined and it’s not something that you can prepare yourself for.”

Thursday’s win was Karlsson’s third contest since his son’s death, but claims it’s been hard to get himself up for games, even though it’s helped take his mind off things.

“It’s been hard … It’s been hard to kind of get the motivation,” he said. “At the same time, it’s been kind of a comfort zone to get back into routine and think about something else for awhile.

“At the end of the day, these guys mean a lot to me and when we go through something like this everybody gets together and they really embraced me and given me everything that I need in this time. For me to just get back to normal and see everybody else behave normal has helped me a lot.”

Karlsson’s status for the team’s final road trip remains unclear, but he’s hoping he “can play the remainder of the season out.”
