Chiney Ogwumike re-signed with the Los Angeles Sparks on a multi-year deal, she announced Thursday.

An All-Star in 2014 and 2016, Ogwumike has averaged 13 points, seven rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game through four seasons. She was named WNBA Rookie of the Year for her exploits with the Connecticut Sun after they drafted her first overall in 2014.

However, the 28-year-old forward’s successful on-court career has been equally marked by her absence from the game. Injuries forced her to miss the 2015 and 2017 seasons, while concerns about playing through the pandemic resulted in her opting out of the 2020 campaign.

Ogwumike has remained in the public eye while working full time for ESPN since 2018, including co-hosting the “Chiney & Golic Jr.” radio show.

With a new deal in hand, Ogwumike will continue to team up in L.A. with older sister Nneka Ogwumike, a six-time All-Star and the league’s MVP in 2016.
