The NFL is moving Monday night’s game between the Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs from Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum due to poor field conditions, the league announced Tuesday.

“We have worked extensively with our partners at Estadio Azteca for months in preparation for this game,” NFL executive vice president of International Mark Waller said in the statement. “Until very recently, we had no major concerns. But, the combination of a difficult rainy season and a heavy multi-event calendar of events at the stadium, have resulted in significant damage to the field that presents unnecessary risks to player safety and makes it unsuitable to host an NFL game.”

NFL officials reportedly met at Estadio Azteca to determine the state of the field and make a decision on whether to relocate the game or not.

Several players reportedly considered boycotting Monday’s game over the inclement field conditions.

The contest is expected to be one of the best of the season, with the Rams and Chiefs each entering with just one loss.
