Breaking records and making history as been a key focus of WWE’s women’s division lately. Charlotte and Sasha Banks became the first females to headline a WWE pay-per-view at Hell In A Cell 2016, and we’ve just witnessed the first two women’s Money In The Bank ladder matches in the past few weeks. Now, it looks like the company could be heading towards another big first.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE are considering a women’s Royal Rumble match next January. Details are scarce, and it’s unclear if they’re actually making plans or just throwing ideas around, but this isn’t the first time the match has been mentioned.

Bayley spoke on the possibility of a women’s Rumble back in January, and Becky Lynch recently stated that she felt the match was inevitable, but still “a year or two away.” The booking now sounds like a real possibility, and the upcoming Mae Young Classic could be used to fill out the numbers.

The Observer also mentioned that next summer’s big Network tournament could be a tag team competition. It’d take a similar format to the 2015 and 2016 Dusty Rhodes Classic, but would likely involve outside talent, much like the women’s tourney.
