We’ll see a new and improved Blake Bortles this season, according to Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone .

On the topic of Bortles’ throwing motion, which seemed to badly degrade during a 2016 season in which he slumped to a 78.8 passer rating with 16 interceptions, Marrone said he’s seen improvement this spring.

“I think improved, there’s no doubt about it,” Marrone said of his fourth-year passer’s arm, according to Mike Kaye of First Coast News.

It’s unclear if merely correcting the way he holds and throws the ball will be enough to get Bortles’ career back on track.

The former third overall pick reportedly worked hard on his throwing motion before enjoying a breakout season in 2015. There are whispers that Bortles didn’t work nearly as hard prior to last season, and his play certainly suggested there was validity to the rumors.

The Jaguars recently picked up his fifth-year option, but it’s a very safe bet that the team will be searching for a new quarterback in 2018 if Bortles doesn’t throw the ball much better this fall.
