Perhaps Julius Peppers doesn’t need to turn back the clock in his return to the Carolina Panthers.

Peppers spent the first eight years of his career with the franchise, then played in the NFC North for the past seven seasons. He re-signed with the Panthers this offseason on a one-year deal, and Carolina’s coaching staff believes not much has changed since the last time Peppers was in its facility.

“Julius looks like he did seven years ago when I had the first opportunity to coach him,” defensive line coach Eric Washington said to Bill Voth of Panthers.com.

“He still looks like he’s a dynamic player. The combination of his size and the ability to move – I don’t see a lot that’s changed with him. He’s aged extremely well.”

Peppers still ranks as the Panthers’ franchise leader in sacks with 81. His prowess for pursuing the passer didn’t diminish when he left town. He earned three seasons of double-digit sacks in the time since and recorded 7.5 sacks last year with the Green Bay Packers.

Carolina ranked second in the league with 47 total sacks in 2016. Peppers’ contributions could push them to the top.
