The Cleveland Browns have no plans to use the franchise tag on wide receiver Terrelle Pryor ahead of free agency, Mary Kay Cabot of reports, citing a league source.

Browns management has been against the idea of the one-year tender throughout the offseason, and this latest update falls in line with that stance.

What remains to be seen is whether the tag becomes a last resort if negotiations to re-sign Pryor on a long-term deal carry past Wednesday’s deadline.

As Cabot adds, Cleveland fully intends to get the quarterback-turned-wideout under contract.

The franchise tag could still end up being a necessary move to that end, as teams have until July 15 to work out a long-term deal with players who receive the franchise tag.

Pryor would become an unrestricted free agent March 9 in the event the Browns opt against the designation and are unable to come to terms on a long-term deal beforehand.

The 27-year-old finished his first full season at receiver with 77 catches for 1,007 yards and four touchdowns.
